CHAPATECA
ALTERNATIVE LIBRARY SOLUTION
The Chapateca Association is a dynamic Mozambican organization dedicated to bringing books, literacy, and learning to underserved communities through a network of innovative community-based libraries.
In partnership with local associations, we operate on the outskirts of the country’s major cities.
Step Up and Join the adventure!
Our mission is to help fight illiteracy and strengthen the mastery of the Portuguese language within the communities where we operate.
We are committed to creating, managing and galvanizing innovative community-based libraries, connected by a mobile library.
We want to provide equitable educational access to children, adolescents, and to all interested, with a focus on promoting reading and writing.

We aspire to a future where every Mozambican, regardless of age or level of education, is proficient in the Portuguese language and has access to educational resources.
Our goal is to create a supportive network of community-based libraries, acting as dynamic and accessible learning centers.
We wish to contribute to the construction of a more equitable society by promoting education for all Mozambicans and by changing their perception of books.

Our values guide our daily actions through exemplary behavior.
Our team is trained according to the principles of positive education (active listening, non-violent communication).
We are committed to fostering collaboration, diversity and inclusion within the communities. We believe in youth empowerment through the creation of inclusive cultural spaces.
